16 days of Activism is an opportunity to come together with the global women’s movement to call for an end to gender based violence.
ZATULET went around the community educating the people around the dangers of Gender based violence and the causes like Harmful gender norms ( forced marriage , Female genital mutilation), Poverty and unemployment, Alcohol and drug abuse, Human Trafficking, Lack of Education and Guidance and support, Trans-generation and Inequality. GBV in Zambia takes the form of physical , mental, social or economic abuse against a person because of that persons gender and includes violence that may result in physical, sexual or psychological harm and suffering to the victim. That is why ZATULET and other organizations focus on ending violence against women. According to the United Nations Population Fund, 1 in 3 women have experienced physical violence in their life.
