ZATULET Current Activities 2021

Community HIV test and treat in 12 Communities and Markets in Lusaka Urban District

  • Community index and contact tracing
  • Community ART Retention and TB adherence
  • Community Gender Based Violence (GBV) identification and referrals

Community Tuberculosis (TB) Active case finding, in 12 Communites /Markets in Lusaka Urban District

  • Symptom screening using signs and symptom check list and counseling presumptive people
  • Sputum collection and transporting to ZATULET lab and other public laboratories
  • Community index and contact tracing
  • Community DOT and Retention

Running a Community Medical Health Centre in Lusaka carrying out the following activities

  • TB screening, sputum collection and testing in its laboratory with a Flourescent Microscope or sending samples to a GeneXpert facility and collecting results and notifying cases and initiating treatment /adherence (DOT)
  • Facility TB screening in entry points e.g, OPD, ART clinic, VCT, MCH, Antenatal, VMMC
  • Facility HIV Counseling and Testing in entry points e.g, OPD, ART clinic, VCT, MCH, Antenatal, VMMC
  • Indexing both HIV/TB, tracing contacts and setting up plans with patients or clients for effective adherence
  • Facility ART /TB Retention and TB adherence though appointments reminders and follow ups for those who miss their appointment dates
  • Running an out patient department (OPD)
  • Carrying out Voluntary Male Medical Circumcision (VMMC)

ENDED PROJECT

TB Innovation Project using the eCompliance Technology Suite in 14 communities in Lusaka (9), Chilanga (3) and Kafue (3) Districts which was a pilot one for16 months ended in November 2020

The project met its targets.

  • TB Patient enrolments – 1764                                    Enrolled  –  1958

The current HIV ART programme sponsored by CDC Zambia through Provincial Lusaka Health Office (PLHO) the target has already been met. Its ending in September 2021

Target: New HIV Positive clients 174 in one year.  Achieved: 189 HIV Positive Clients

Note: The challenge for the activities running is insufficient funding to run them and future scalability

PLANNED PROJECTS

1. HIV/TB/Malaria Prevention among Adolescents and young women and boys

  • Supporting Education opportunities for  the Adolescents and young women and boys
  • Supporting Health services for the Adolescents and young women and boys
  • Supporting their HIV Psychosocial counseling and testing, TB /Malaria screening, diagnosis and treatment
  • Supporting their nutrition needs
  • Supporting their income generation activities (IGA) to raise income and keep them busy

2. TB innovation in community active case finding and facility intensified case finding using new

     technologies e.g,

  • eCompliance Technology Suite,
  • EPCON epidemic control system
  • ,99DOT or VOT Technology

3. MDR-TB case finding, prevention and adherence

  • Community Contact tracing of the MDR-TB Indexes
  • Community and Household awareness of MDR-TB infection
  • Adherence using technologies which minimize physical contacts of patients

4. Community Leprosy activities

  • Community awareness raising about Leprosy including schools
  • Community active case finding of Leprosy
  • Referral of cases to health facilities for management

5. OVC PROGRAMME

Mitigating HIV impact on OVC

  • Supporting Education opportunities for  the Adolescents and young women and boys
  • Supporting Health services for the Adolescents and young women and boys
  • Supporting their HIV Psychosocial counseling and testing, TB /Malaria screening, diagnosis and treatment
  • Supporting their nutrition needs

6. CHALLENGE/GAPS

  • Lack of funds to implement these activities and have quality and adequate Human Resource
  • Inadequate laboratory, dental, radiology and clinical equipment to carryout the necessary tests for quality patient management in ZATULET Health Centre
  • Inadequate furniture for both offices and patients waiting rooms and space
  • Transport to visit our Community TB/HIV Testing health posts. ZATULET has only one old vehicle bought in 2005.
