2020 UNiTE Campaign Theme: “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”
The UN System’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence activities, from 25 November to 10 December, will take place under our 2020 global theme: “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!“
As the world retreated inside homes due to the lockdown measures introduced to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, reports showed an alarming increase in the already existing pandemic of violence against women.
November 25 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
November 29 – International Women Human Rights Defenders Day
December 1 – World AIDS Day.
December 5 – International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development.
December 6 – Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre, which is observed as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada.
December 10 – International Human Rights Day and the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
To advocate for the prioritization of funds for expanding and strengthening essential services that include GBV prevention in COVID-19 fiscal stimulus packages.
For all stakeholders to re-commit national zero tolerance of GBV
To improve quality and access to GBV response services
Establish more robust data collection for the improvement of GBV services and programmes (ensuring survivor-centered and ethical safety standards).
